Restoration and Trails

Friends of Cheasty Greenspace Mt. View (FCGMV) is a community-based volunteer organization in SE Seattle devoted to bringing Cheasty Greenspace, the largest wooded parkland located in the Rainier Valley, back to its natural glory. We work on forest restoration, trail building, and maintenance to create a safe and accessible place for the community. This way, everyone can access outdoor activities like hiking and mountain biking in nature right here in the city of Seattle.

We’re restoring habitat by removing garbage and invasive plants, and planting native trees and shrubs to increase safe and welcoming access to nature and recreation. Since 2007, we’ve planted over 16,000 trees and plants.

In partnership with with Seattle Parks and Recreation, we’re working together on the Cheasty Mt. Bike Pilot project to evaluate mountain biking in a natural area. Cheasty Greenspace is a 43+ acre forest adjacent to Jefferson Golf Course, accessing via three light rail stops (Beacon Hill, Mount Baker, and Columbia City).

Work Parties

Mountain Bike Trail Building

Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance is leading the trail building for Cheasty’s mountain bike trail construction. The project is heavily driven by volunteers, so please come out and help build Seattle’s first forested mountain bike park. Work parties are listed on Evergreen’s web site. Look for “Cheasty Greenspace” in the title.
