We need to RESTORE Cheasty Greenspace to ensure that it can provide great habitat, support biodiversity, and filter and retain storm water. The greenspace will provide health benefits to the citizens of the Rainier Valley. We are actively restoring Cheasty’s 33 acres by removing invasive plants and planting native shrubs and conifer trees to increase the canopy and native plant understory.
By restoring the forest we are increasing habitat for urban wildlife. We will improve conditions for the native plants that make up the ecosystem which is critical for healthy and robust biodiversity. Neighborhood children and youth are involved in the process of restoration, trail building, and maintenance of this park. They are developing skills and stewardship, which ties our vision to RESTORE the forest with our basic human need to RECONNECT with it.
