Ivy scavenger hunt in Snowberry Valley.

A large crew of volunteers came out for the first Saturday in March to help improve the health of our local forest.  We split up to finish some planting, some mulching, and some sweeping through the Snowberry Valley for remnant ivy and blackberry vines that are beginning to peek back out after being cleared by a similar group of volunteers nearly ten years ago.  It’s heartening to see how long it takes these pesky invasives to spring back up, and how quickly a small team can clear them right back out again.

This UW volunteer found this swordfern perfectly planted in this perforated tin can!
